| Issue 116: Baumann, Eva: Gesellschaftliche Konsensfindung und Humangenetik. October 1997 | | | "In philosophy, social consensus has had many faces - from the denial of social dissent by Aristotle and efforts about consensus by Hobbes and Rawls all the way to a life with dissent by Engelhardt. How much consensus is necessary, how much dissent is possible? The answer seems very clear in the Genetechnology in Germany: The belief in perfect legislation and universal regulation generates a desire for total consensus, which however is not achievable in a pluralistic society."
