Issue 126: Ilkilic, Ilhan: Das muslimische Glaubensverständnis von Tod, Gericht, Gottesgnaden und deren Bedeutung für die Medizinethik. September 2000

Ilhan Ilkilic, MD, MA, discusses prime religious and cultural values, guiding muslim believers in their understanding and accepting of disease, illness, death and dying. Physicians in primary care and in German hositals need to have specific information on the value status of their paitents in order to provide for best possible and invididualized medical treatment and care. Attached are excerpts from a turkish catechism used in religious instruction, addressing religious attutudes and understandings of health and disease and the role of medicine. These religious teachings have not yet been available in the German language; they will be helpful to physicians and nurses for the understanding of their patient's religious concept of the value of life and quality of life.
